“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God
that was given you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Corinthians 1:4
I love Paul’s letters. While he might be pointing out a wrong being done, he typically starts off his letters to the churches with a similar greeting of love. It is easy to greet the church that way when the church is healthy and there’s harmony. Not so easy when there is strife and division.
Corinth is such a church. There has been quarreling amongst the congregation about who is a better
leader and lines were drawn. Yet Paul greeted them warmly and gave thanks for their salvation, and
appealed to them to keep their focus on Jesus.
Is there something you and another brother or sister in Christ simply can’t see eye to eye on? Take
your eyes off that point and keep your eyes on Jesus. Thank God for their salvation, ask the Lord for
understanding and harmony. Thank Him for working within all your hearts.
