Are you creating One Word for your New Year? If not, you definitely should. Here you will find what my One Word is and grab this beautiful set of 32 One Word words to guide your New Year. These One Word are accompanied by Bible verses that center each word.
We are a few days into the New Year and chances are you already have a list of your resolutions for this year. Ways that you are going to grow, learn and become a better version of yourself.
For years, I created New Year’s resolutions as well and can count on one hand how many I stuck with throughout the year (hint: probably 2).
I’m guessing since you’re reading this that maybe you’ve had similar results. Let’s make this year different.
Instead of putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves to achieve something, for example, be present, spend more time resting, all important things no doubt, why not consider having One Word.
I started this 2 years ago and I love it.
THE POWER OF ONE WORD
At the start of the New Year, my social media feed was filled with people declaring their resolutions for the year.
The problem is that a list of things you want to do will not get you out of bed on a cold, wintery morning when your tired and all you want to do is sleep in just a little longer.
It’s great to know what you want to achieve for the year but that is just the start. Saying you want to pray more is great but most likely than not, our resolve will leave after a few weeks.
When you have a word though, we become the person that word represents. We go from looking at a list of to-dos to becoming instead.
The person who wants to pray more and grow spiritually might like the word DEDICATED and commit to being dedicated to prayer.
When those days come when you don’t want to pray you will say but I am DEDICATED to prayer and a DEDICATED person makes time to spend time with God.
See the difference?
I have been thinking a great deal about my word for this year. I had a list of 5 that became a list of 2 and finally, my word found me.
This year, my One Word is ALIGN.
Why did I pick this word?
Well, when I think about this year, and all the things I want to accomplish and all the things I hope to do I want to always keep things in alignment with these 3 important areas:
- God’s plan for my life
- My family’s needs
- My purpose
Every decision will be filtered through those 3 criteria.
I also love this word because it will provide the balance I need to keep things in perspective.
I tend to go full throttle when I have a new idea, sometimes to the detriment of my relationships, so I plan to whisper my One Word, ALIGNED to myself frequently to keep me in check. “Are things aligned right now?”
32 ONE WORD & BIBLE VERSE
I realize that picking One Word that will define your entire year is not easy. There are so many great ones.
My advice if you are thinking of picking One Word for this year is to keep it simple, manageable and realistic.
Think about what you want to attract this year, how you want the year to go and also remember that there will be obstacles along the way.
It is also important to have your One Word firmly planted in scripture?
Why? Because I know that I can only reach my goals when I am in partnership with Christ. When we ALIGN (there’s that word again) our plans to God’s plans, nothing can stand in our way.
Unfortunately, I could not find a list with Biblical verse so I create my own. And I want to pass it to you as well. [Download Below]
MAKE THIS YEAR DIFFERENT
Can you imagine going through your year with your One Word to guide you AND connected with the word of God?
I don’t know about you but that’s the kind of One Word I’m looking for, right?
I plan to remind myself frequently of my word and to memorize the Bible verse that goes with it.
For aligned I chose the Bible verse: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5
The wisdom that I pray for is the one that will show me when I am no longer keeping my relationship with Christ my priority.
I hope that the wisdom I ask of God will keep me from overextending myself and be mindful when things are out of sync.
After you’ve grabbed the list of 32 One-Word, select the word that speaks to you. Then print it out, pop it in a simple frame and put it in a place where you can see if frequently.
I will put mine next to my bed so it’s the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing before I fall asleep.
Now it’s your turn. Which One Word will you choose? Whichever it is, I pray that it blesses your year and that you do ALL the things you want to do through Him alone who strengthens you!
P.S. If there is a word that you have for this year but do not see it on the list, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line ONE WORD and I will be happy to create a beautiful print with your One Word.
