Here’s A Quick Way To Connect To God And Find Peace

Are you looking for a way to connect to God and find more peace?  If so,  here is a quick way, I have found that works each time.  I pray it helps you as well.

Before the pandemic, I prayed that I would have more time to do the things I wanted to do – pray, exercise, spend more time with my kids, and time to rest.

I was exhausted running on the preverbal hampster wheel.

When we were forced into isolation and we were all home, my initial thought was “well, now I have some time to do all the things I didn’t have time before.”

But a funny thing happened.

Even though our life was different, it was still hectic – trying to work from home and manage the kids’ remote learning schedule.

It was still stressful – just the fear of a deadly virus.

Before I knew it, I did not have the time I thought I would magically have.  I suddenly found that I was still on a hamster wheel, just one of a different color. 🙂

Schedule Your Jesus + Me Time

It was during this time, that I really wanted to focus more on my time with God.  I needed to connect to Him daily in order to keep my peace and not get overwhelmed by the state of the world. The news can be pretty scary,  so I need my God to help me through it.

While my schedule might still be hectic, I have found a quick way to connect to God and find my peace.

And the best part is that it fits into my busy schedule and allows me to squeeze in some self-care each day as well.

What is this magical way?

It’s actually pretty simple:

Each day, I schedule 15 minutes each day for a date with Jesus.  That’s it!

Pretty simple right?

What To Do During Your Time

Now before you run off to do your 15 minutes’ time, I wanted to share exactly what I do during my ‘Jesus + me’ time.

[1] Get Excited

When I schedule my 15 minutes on my calendar, I look forward to it throughout the day.  When the time comes for me to have my prayer time, I drop whatever I am doing, grab my Bible, and head to my prayer spot. Treat this time as a time for yourself to slow down as well and to take a break from all the stress of your day.

[2] Get curious

I go into my prayer time curious about how God will use my time with Him and how He will show up during our time together.  Curiosity can be a very powerful force and when you start becoming curious about your prayer.

[3] Invite

When you are comfortable in your cozy spot, invite the Holy Spirit to join you during this time.  Acknowledge that God’s presence is there even if you do not feel it.  Recognize His power and humbly ask Him to receive this time with you.

[4] Enjoy the silence

My prayers tend to be pretty wordy.  I grew up reciting prayers, Psalms, novenas so I enjoy speaking and doing much of the talking during prayer.  When I do my ‘Jesus + Me’ time though, I dedicate that time to simply being silent.  And I love it so much.  Using these meditation videos have also helped and puts me in a peaceful state of mind.

[5] Expect

As you sit in the quiet, expect God to speak to you.  Keep in mind, you can hear God in many different ways, sometimes during your time of quiet and sometimes outside of prayer.  Go into your prayer and rest time with a joyful expectation that God is with you and wants to be in a relationship with you.
