When was the last time you stood in front of a mirror and looked at yourself?
I’m not talking a quick glance to check that your outfit matches or that you don’t have lipstick on your teeth.
Nope. I’m talking a good, long, hard, loving look at yourself.
Where you look yourself in the eyes and see all of you.
You’re probably saying, “But I already know what I look like.” And I probably know what you see – the imperfections right? Saggy boobs and belly, tired eyes and a few more wrinkles, or is it just me?
Let me tell you why the first step to being joyful is to talk to that girl in the mirror.
Instead of seeing just your flaws, what if we looked at ourselves the way God sees us?
THE START OF A POWERFUL HABIT
A few days after my second son was born, I stepped out of the shower and stood in front of my full length mirror. I took in my post-partum belly that was sagging already, my hair that desperately needed a deep conditioning and eyes that carried a few more wrinkles than the week before.
And as I looked at myself I did something that surprised even me. I smiled, gave myself a hug and I said “I love you.”
I went about my day and the weeks past in a blur with a newborn and a toddler. A few weeks later, I did it again and before long I started incorporating this simple activity into my daily routine. I wouldn’t do it everyday but almost every week I would stop, look myself in the eyes and tell myself how proud I was of the girl in the mirror.
I didn’t realize it then, but doing this was so powerful and has slowly transformed not only how I see myself but also how I presented myself to the world.
You see for a long time I have always been shy and insecure in who I was. I wished my skin was a little lighter, that my tummy was flatter and that my gums didn’t show as much when I smiled. (Now you know all my secrets 🙂).
But after doing this almost daily, I embraced all my flaws and realize I was becoming my biggest cheerleader. I was filling up my own love tank. And it felt AMAZING!
I decided to grab my notebook and write down my list of things I could say to myself that would help me during different seasons of my life.
I cannot tell you how much this has impacted my life for the better. Through this simple yet powerful action, you will realized the following:
- You are capable
- You are strong
- You have been created for a purpose
- You have something valuable to contribute
- You are here for a reason
- You are never alone
- You are loved beyond comprehension
I not only know this but I believe it with all my heart. And that has been the difference maker. I now treat myself with care and take time to rest when I need to.
Most importantly, this practice has also allowed me to also say what I expect and need from others instead of relying on them to read my mind.
This lesson has been a long time coming. One I really needed to learn.
THE CONFIDENCE MANTRA EFFECT
Without a doubt, I am not the same person I was before and I credit my growth and self-confidence to my daily mantra.
- Now I can walk into a room of strangers and feel comfortable in my own skin.
- I can go up to someone I don’t know and initiate a conversation.
- I have the confidence to dream BIG and the courage to work hard and chase those dreams.
And when you are faced with rejection, just do what I do and remind yourself that whoever does not want to be around you is only robbing themselves of basking in your light. 🙂
5 DAY CONFIDENCE MANTRA
This daily Confidence mantra, not only increased my self-confidence but has brought so much joy as well.
I am far from perfect but knowing that I am loved, forgiven and protected by my Father, makes me hold my head up a little higher, I give grace more often to myself and others and feel joy that surpasses all understanding.
I invite you to grab a copy of this 5-day confidence mantra and try it for yourself. If you find that you are more often critical of yourself or have a hard time accepting the person you are, its time to put a little bit of work in and change it.
This takes 5 minutes out of your day but the rewards will be transformational.
I promise you that if you do this consistently you will not only love yourself more but you will start to see yourself in a whole new way – the way God sees you. Others will notice the confident, happier, more joyful you.
I can’t wait to hear how it helps you. Let that brilliant light shine!
