The True Meaning of Wealth

Do you want more wealth? Do you dream of having it all and living in comfort?  There is no doubt that the pursuit of wealth is something most of us undertake.  We all want to provide for our family and give our family all we can. God wants us to prosper as well so let us put our trust in Him, knowing that He is guiding us towards true, lasting wealth.

My mom and I were driving to the mall recently.

It was shortly after I had a medical procedure done.  It was my first time out in a few days and it felt good to be driving again and running around.

While driving, my mom commented on the “gloomy weather.”

I briefly looked around at the cloudy, gray day and agreed that the weather was indeed gloomy.  But honestly, until she mentioned it, I had not noticed.

You see, I was so wrapped up in feeling strong enough to run an errand and feel like myself again.

I was cloaked up in the blanket of gratitude that no dark, damp or gloomy day could take my joy.

What an amazing feeling!

Have you felt that way before?

MEASURING WEALTH

There are different definitions to wealth but the most important one and the one that often times gets dismissed is the feeling of well-being.

Without feeling great in your own skin and grateful for what you have, the other aspect of wealth – the ones we think matter like money and material possession – will not matter.

It doesn’t matter how big your house is or how fancy your car is because if you don’t have peace, joy and contentment you are severely lacking.

We live in such an amazing time.  When with the power of the internet and computers we can be anything and do almost anything.

We can ‘wash our face’ and pursue our purpose with determination.

We can discover ‘the secret’ and manifest our desires.

If you are like me sometimes it’s hard to look past the Instagram reel or to not be envious of that friend who goes on vacations every 3 months.

In an age where business is boss and the hustle is looked at with honor, its so easy to dismiss the blessings we already have in our lives.

I want to remind you, and me, that there is way more to life than chasing stuff.

Instead of constantly striving to be someone else, or straining ourselves to have the next best of things, let us remember that wealth is not about material possessions but rather, it is the joy, peace and contentment that we have in our lives.

And those things come with the relationship with a higher power. A power greater that ourselves and is the source of all good things.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33

Now before you roll your eyes and think that is all fluffy stuff and that joy, peace and contentment does not pay the mortgage or car payment, I want you to keep this in mind as you go throughout your day today.

If you are healthy – you are wealthy

If you have a family that loves you – you are wealthy

If you have a relationship with God – you are wealthy

If you have someone to love – you are wealthy

If you have friends you can count on – you are wealthy

If you go to bed with a smile on your face – you are wealthy

If you have a job that serves your purpose – you are wealthy

If you have something to laugh about – you are wealthy

If you are making an impact on someone’s life no matter how large or small – you are wealthy

If you have kids who love being around you – you are wealthy

If you have a space to call your own – you are wealthy

If you wake up and greet each day with gratitude – you are wealthy

If you have parents that you are close to – you are wealthy

If you have memories that make you giggle – you are wealthy

If you believe you are a child of God – you are wealthy

If you are better than you were yesterday – you are wealthy

If you give thanks for your blessings – you are wealthy

If you ___________________________ – you are wealthy.

What would you fill the blank with? What are you grateful for today?

BEING GRATEFUL

Starting today, I challenge you, and me, to stop looking at what others might have or what material possessions might be missing from our lives.

Instead let us focus on the tremendous blessings and wealth we already have.

And then, with a grateful heart let us praise our God and Father who is the provider and giver of all. If there is something you truly desire, raise it up in prayer.

You might not have it all yet but I hope you will look around you with new eyes and realize that while things are not perfect, you, my friend, are far wealthier than you realize.

What you does being wealthy mean to you?

I wanted to leave you with these words and I pray that it will bring you a wealth of joy!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
